Il y a des choses que j'aurais aimé te dire is a solo for two voices. It is a show that weaves its story around circus, dance, text and sound. It tells the story of an exile from times gone by. We hear Laurice, who tells the story of her life in small steps. In June 2018, I began to interview Laurice. Equipped with a recorder, I spent hours in her living room, asking her questions about her life. Laurice is my grandmother. She is one of the women who saw me grow up and who I watched grow old. She tells me snippets of memories, picks up the threads, weaves them together. In Cairo, in 1928, Laurice was born as an Egyptian and a Jew. At 18, she became a communist activist, then a feminist. In parallel to this political life with many twists and turns, she tells me about Nisso, the great love of her life. Nisso is the grandfather I never knew. He was also a political opponent, fighting against the regime that was in power in Egypt in the 1950s. So much for the starting point. As for the arrival point, it is in March 2020. That is when Laurice dies in her Parisian flat. She is 92 years old. Between these two points, there is an entire path. This is the path we are talking about. Unwinding the thread of Laurice's life, in her words, with my own language. Between dance and circus, the Chinese pole becomes a bridge between worlds. Thanks to it, Egypt comes to France and the voice of a dead woman reaches the ears of the living. Two voices that mix. Words that tremble. Generations mingling and intertwining. The little story extends into a big one.
